Hollywood mixes freeway traffic, tourist traffic and nightlife traffic on the same handful of streets. Highland Avenue and Cahuenga Boulevard feed the 101 on- and off-ramps, so drivers arrive at surface intersections at freeway speeds. Hollywood Boulevard itself carries slow, distracted pedestrian-watching traffic across the Walk of Fame while buses and rideshare vehicles stop in the travel lane.
That mix produces a particular pattern of cases: rear-end impacts in stop-and-go boulevard traffic, left-turn collisions at Highland, Cahuenga and Vine, and doorings and lane-change impacts where rideshare drivers pull to the curb. Because so much of the corridor is commercial, there is almost always a camera nearby — and almost always a short window before it is overwritten.
Report the collision. Vehicle Code § 20008 requires a written report to the investigating agency within 24 hours of an injury crash if police did not take one at the scene, and Vehicle Code § 16000 requires an SR-1 to the DMV within 10 days when anyone is injured or property damage exceeds $1,000.

Preserve the footage. We send preservation letters to the businesses, hotels and venues nearest the impact, and we request any Metro bus or rail video where a transit vehicle was involved.
